Rules & how it works
- Players (or pairs) are ordered in a ranking ladder.
- Lower-ranked participants can challenge participants above them within a defined range (e.g. up to 3 positions).

How matches are generated

2. No Auto-Generated Matches: Unlike other formats, Ladder tournaments do not auto-generate matches. Instead, participants challenge each other and matches are created on-demand.
3. Challenge System: The typical rule is that you can challenge anyone within 3 positions above you. The system validates challenges before creating match entries.
4. Position Updates: After a challenge match is completed, if the challenger wins, positions swap (or the challenger moves up based on club rules). If the challenger loses, positions remain unchanged.
5. Ongoing Nature: Ladder tournaments run continuously over weeks or months. The standings table shows current rankings at any time.
6. Activity Tracking: The system can track when players were last active to enforce "must play within X days" rules or auto-drop inactive participants.
